Rik and Raquel’s engagement session has been one of our favourites, because we have wanted to photograph on Gale Algarve beach since the first time we went there, and because the two of them were just so fun and relaxed and happy in love!  It’s always amazing to see our work featured, especially on a blog as amazing as b.loved.  We have always admired the beautiful photography that Louse publishes and are so happy that she likes our work.  You can go and have a look at the full feature on b.loved !

Rachel + James & Family in Sagres, Portugal

This lovely big family was a ton of fun to photograph!  They met us in Sagres by the light house on the cliffs, it was a stunning backdrop to the portrait session.  Later on we ventured to the beach at Martinhal Resort to catch the sunset.  We had an amazing time, can’t wait to see these guys again!

For Elis, Algarve in Bloom

This was a spontaneous photo shoot we did one evening in Matt’s parents garden in Monchique, Algarve while they had some guests over for a holiday.  It was so much fun we would LOVE to do more of these awesome portrait sessions.  Elis was super cool and we can’t wait to see her again when she makes her next trip to the Algarve!

Raquel + Rik, Engagement Session on Gale Beach

We had so much fun photographing Rik and Raquel for their engagement session.  The were so sweet, always laughing and dancing, they made our job supper easy!  In fact I really can’t wait to see the first dance at this wedding!

 We met up for the shoot on Gale beach just west of Albufeira. It took us three times of going around the block to find parking and once we got to the beach it was completely jam-packed with umbrellas, towels and people, the tourist season has begun and the days of Gale beach being a sleepy little surf hang out was gone!

 Luckily Gale beach stretches for miles and there is a little obscured dirt pathway that leads to a number of coves just a little walk west with small secluded beaches, this was our piece of photography heaven.

 Rik and Raquel live in Lisbon and are tying the knot in Tavira this September.  We are so excited to shoot their beautiful outdoor wedding. A ceremony in a garden, followed by a small train ride to the beach for a bit of sand, sea and sun wedding celebration with a restaurant reception to follow.  It sounds amazing!

As Matt and and my wedding celebration date approaches I have been looking for all sorts of inspiration from dresses to decor, I have slowly been piecing everything together .  As I looked through so many beautiful inspiration shoots from photographers and wedding blogs from every corner of the world I got inspired to do a little photo shoot myself , a kind of wedding I would love to have.

Having our work published on Whimsical Wonderland Weddings is so incredible.

I imagined a wedding that would serve food that people can enjoy with fresh picked herbs from the table centerpieces, some nice brie and presunto starters on fresh baguette, some lovely refreshing salads in the hot sun, and some hearty stews in the evening to keep warm when the sun goes down.  Accompanied by lots and lots of wine.

 This photo shoot was inspired by that idea, and then we added a rosemary and bay leaf bouquet, which smelled amazing and a DIY wreath made with a string of twine, few branches of rosemary, lavender and bay leaves.

 This is great because all the herbs are now decorating my balcony garden and the dried herbal bouquet and wreath are hanging in my kitchen.  Maybe it can be a new trend, instead of saving a piece of cake in the freezer for years, save your herbal bouquet and use it to cook with, put a little romance in every meal!  ( I love to cook so I like this idea.)

 Everything in this photo shoot was a DIY project, I even baked the honey and rosemary cup cakes myself!

 The cups and plates and silverware and other cool table things were supplied by Francesca’s, also know as , Matt’s moms kitchen.

 Oh and the dress! The dress has a story of its own!  A thrifty find at a second hand store in Ketchikan, Alaska.  It was one of those “NO WAY…IS THIS A VINTAGE WEDDING DRESS??? $20!!!!  WE CAN SO USE THIS FOR A PHOTO SHOOT!”

Matt and Lena picked the most amazing beach for our shoot - somewhere we would have never discovered otherwise. We had so much fun and they made us feel really comfortable. Matt + Lena were so amazing to work with before, during and after the wedding! They paid so much attention to detail and really listened to ensure we were happy with our pictures. My husband and I came from Canada to get married in the Algarve so we didn't have the chance to meet with Matt + Lena in person ahead of time. I could tell by their pictures (of course they are stunning!!) but also their professionalism, prompt email responses and overall ease of communication that it was going to be a perfect fit! We were thrilled with our beautiful pictures and have received so many compliments that they look like pictures out of a magazine and that they truly capture our love and the story of our big day! They scouted out all the great spots for us ahead of time, ensuring the lighting would be just right, and I just adore their style of photography - so natural and genuine. Adam Cummings Maria + Adam, Wedding in Sintra, Portugal

 

We got married at the Quinta in Cintra and my wife found Matt and Lena somehow on the internet. In all the craziness of organising a wedding, they were one of the few constants. Always organized, and very prepared (they even went on a trip from Alvor to Lisbon to check out the light in the area!). The wedding day was exceptional as they popped up around the place like Ninjas - you will never be able to see them both - making sure to get loads of genuine shots of everyone from dawn til dusk. Laur D Laura and Jonathon, Elopement in the Algarve

 

My husband and I traveled from Toronto to Portugal for our elopement and we were so fortunate that Matt and Lena were available on our wedding day. Throughout the booking process they were quick to respond to emails and set a Skype date to go over all of the logistics for our day, as well as to answer any questions we had - and we had a lot! Matt and Lena were very social and created a comfortable environment which was great since it was just the four of us during the six hour photo shoot. The photos turned out stunning and we have received compliments from everyone who has seen them. The photos really captured the nuance moments throughout the day in a very natural way and we will cherish them forever. Natacha Manuel Natacha + Manuel, Beach Wedding Algarve

 

Matt and Lena were recommended to us by our wedding planner, Susana Santos. We were sold from the get-go (just take a look at their beautiful pictures!), and meeting them in person only reaffirmed that we had made the right decision. We were a bit iffy about doing an engagement shoot but it was a great idea in the end as we got to be very comfortable with Matt and Lena which made things far easier on the actual wedding day! The pictures are fabulous and a year after our wedding people are still commenting on just how beautiful the photos are. All in all, definitely a great choice and we heartily recommend them to anyone who is getting married!
