A few months back we were so excited as Gemma and Eamonn’s engagement session was featured on Fly Away Bride. We are thrilled to have the pleasure of sharing Gemma and Eamonn’s beautiful destination wedding on Fly Away Bride this last week! This wedding was such an emotional celebration, the bride and groom were stunning and so was the location, Boliqueime and Albufeira, Portugal. RiK and Raquel tied the knot in Tavira, Portugal this September. It was the 21st, the first day of Autum, and a beautiful day. This was the first time (so far) we had been to Tavira so we decided to stay a few days, and we loved it. The town was charming, full of canals and street musicians, it felt like we were on a holiday. The wedding ceremony was held at Pedras D’el Rey around a small stone amphitheater endearingly called by RiK the “Flintstone “ amphitheater. Now this was the official name we received from RiK and Raquel on their wedding schedule/itinerary, so we went into the reception, totally serious, asking for directions as to where it is, where we were met with a puzzled look by the receptionist. We proceeded to show her the itinerary, which by the way looked like this-
It all ran like clockwork – on Portuguese time. And if you have ever been to Portugal, you know what I mean.
On the way to the alter RiK was stung 3 times by a wasp that flew up his trousers! But as they say, no pain no gain, and so despite the suffering it was the best day of his life! (thats all we are going to say about that!)
Who stings a man on his wedding day – honestly!
This wedding was a laid back affair with emphasis on fun, and loads of fun it was! These 2 are the cutest pair and we are so happy they shared their day with us.

Alex and Melanie love to travel, and when it came time to decide where to tie the knot, the south coast of the Algarve won out over all other destinations. They wanted a simple ceremony by the sea. It was a small wedding with only one tiny guest, who slept through the whole thing!
The morning started out in Casa Verde where Melanie and Alex got ready together. From the house there was a path to a pretty little cove on Albandeira beach. The sun was rising and the waves were crashing as they exchanged their vows that pretty morning.
After a long siesta we headed down to Ferragudo, a charming and colourful fishing village, where we spent the evening wandering the streets and ended up on a large stretch of beach that we had mostly to ourselves except for a few friendly visitors.
As the sun was setting they set up dozens of lanterns and spent the rest of their romantic evening cuddling and sipping champaign.

When Alex and Melanie first contacted us about their wedding, it was so amazing sounding we couldn’t wait for September to come around to finally meet them! This little engagement session we did just a couple of days before the wedding in the garden outside the house where they were staying. The entire wedding party consisted of Alex, Melanie and their little daughter Josie. We can’t wait to share this …..amazing is putting it mildly, wedding! It’s coming soon, but in the mean time here is their sweet engagement session.

Matt + Lena were so amazing to work with before, during and after the wedding! They paid so much attention to detail and really listened to ensure we were happy with our pictures. My husband and I came from Canada to get married in the Algarve so we didn't have the chance to meet with Matt + Lena in person ahead of time. I could tell by their pictures (of course they are stunning!!) but also their professionalism, prompt email responses and overall ease of communication that it was going to be a perfect fit! We got married at the Quinta in Cintra and my wife found Matt and Lena somehow on the internet. In all the craziness of organising a wedding, they were one of the few constants. Always organized, and very prepared (they even went on a trip from Alvor to Lisbon to check out the light in the area!). The wedding day was exceptional as they popped up around the place like Ninjas - you will never be able to see them both - making sure to get loads of genuine shots of everyone from dawn til dusk. My husband and I traveled from Toronto to Portugal for our elopement and we were so fortunate that Matt and Lena were available on our wedding day. Throughout the booking process they were quick to respond to emails and set a Skype date to go over all of the logistics for our day, as well as to answer any questions we had - and we had a lot! Matt and Lena were very social and created a comfortable environment which was great since it was just the four of us during the six hour photo shoot. The photos turned out stunning and we have received compliments from everyone who has seen them. The photos really captured the nuance moments throughout the day in a very natural way and we will cherish them forever. Matt and Lena were recommended to us by our wedding planner, Susana Santos. We were sold from the get-go (just take a look at their beautiful pictures!), and meeting them in person only reaffirmed that we had made the right decision. We were a bit iffy about doing an engagement shoot but it was a great idea in the end as we got to be very comfortable with Matt and Lena which made things far easier on the actual wedding day! The pictures are fabulous and a year after our wedding people are still commenting on just how beautiful the photos are.
