An awesome wedding set in Os Agostos, a beautiful venue in the Algarve countryside.

From the Bride:

“Sunflowers became a favourite of mine while I was still living at home with my parents and my dad would always buy me a bouquet of sunflowers on my birthday.

We had all our invitations, programmes and thank you cards made through Amanda’s Etsy store (Dawn Correspondence). We loved her rustic style and wanted to keep her theme going from start to finish.

Mike and I designed all the dresses and suits ourselves and had them tailored in Hoi An, Vietnam. We knew of a great tailor there from one of our previous visits (Yaly Couture) that could make all the outfits at very reasonable prices. We wanted all the dresses and suits to be very light and summery so we decided on beige linen suits and yellow bridesmaids dresses to match the sunflowers. My wedding dress was exactly the same as the bridesmaids dresses but in white – I also had a lace top made to go on top of my dress which was made with the fabric from my mums wedding veil.

The wedding was organised by the Algarve Wedding Planners. Our venue, Os Agostos, had different areas for the ceremony, reception, dinner, cake cutting and dancing, and it was really nice to go from one area to the next and be surprised with all the beautiful decoration that the venue owner and our florist had helped put together for us.

We wanted to gift our guests something typical Portuguese, so we filled some little white boxes with almonds and dried figs bought from the supermarket, tied them up with twine and added a heart shaped tag with the guests name on it, so it acted as their place name too.

Mike and I met during our first week of university (9 years before we got married) and quickly became good friends so we’ve collected hundreds of photos of us having a great time at university and then travelling around the world as a couple. We wanted to share all our special memories with our guests so we printed a lot of the photos and hung them up in a tree using twine and mini pegs.

Instead of a traditional guest book, we asked our guests to sign small pieces of fabric so that I could make a quilt out of it later. We thought it would be a more interesting way to remember our big day and something that would always be on display in our home.

We had a basket full of slippers and ballerina pumps in the lounge area next to the dance floor so that our guests could trade their shoes for something a bit more comfortable on the dance floor with DJ Tim Fortune.”
