. . . . .
Frauke, David, Amelie and Nuno often come to Portugal from Germany to holiday in Monte Gordo where Davids family is originally from. They stay in an upstairs apartment of a big family house. The narrow picturesque neighbourhood streets are super colourful with lots of washing lines blowing in the wind. It’s a great place to hang out!
The day was meant to have been an elopement, but once the neighbourhood heard about the wedding they all came out to celebrate and it turned into a party!
The alter on the beach was put together that morning by Davids family and neighbours who attended the small ceremony. It was a beautiful day although bit windy.
After the ceremony and all the hugs and kisses David took us to an old Monte Gordo train stain for some photographs. It was perfect timing as the train pulled up just as we arrived. The train station had a sentimental connection to David who used to play there as a kid whenever he visited relatives.
We went back to the beach for sunset, when the light is magic, and strolled among the fisherman boats. Eventually we made it down the boardwalk to the restaurant where they planned to have a small reception. It was a quirky colourful place with amazing food and atmosphere.
This rustic DIY elopement was just perfect, with Amelie’s rose hair wreath made from the flowers form the garden, and an arrangement of Pastel De Nata’s as a wedding cake, with lego dolls as toppers – love it!
We enjoyed this day so much we want to do it all over agin and again!

Mean while, down on the beach….
…and back at the house…
