We have somewhat of an obsession with Monte Clerigo beach near the town of Aljezur. It’s a place we went to when we were first discovering Portugal and the Algarve. It has remained our favourite forever! It was just a hop, skip and a jump from Monchique where we always stayed while in the Algarve, and the drive is one of the prettiest journeys!
So when Bernd and Carolin asked us where near Aljezur we think they should have their ceremony, being a couple of beach lovers, our suggestion was Monte Clerigo!
Their elopement was an adventure from the Cliffs of Vale da Telha where they had their first look, to the woodland clifftops of Monte Clerigo and a walk down its rustic village streets, to the small coves of the beach where they had their romantic ceremony.
Theirs was an intimate celebration with a reception at O Sargo, a new restaurant on the Monte Clerigo beach front. We love this place too! It has a tiny kitchen but some of the most amazing food. Definitely worth the adventure to the north west Algarve!
Carolin and Bernd are from Germany. They wanted their destination Aljezur wedding to encompass all that they loved in life – travel, family, amazing food, wild coastlines, picturesque vast spaces and super romantic vistas. The west coast of the Algarve was the perfect place!

“The beach of Praia do Monte Clérigo is set towards the north-western corner of the Algarve, which makes it a very different place to the well known spots on the south coast. The Algarve’s west coast has a fairly wild feel about it characterised by wide sandy beaches facing into the full force of the Atlantic Ocean.
Praia do Monte Clérigo has a charming little village of pink and white cottages at the other end. The beach itself is made up of fine golden sand with cliffs to either end and gently sloping sand dunes towards the mid-section of the beach. At the southern end of the beach are some fantastic nooks, crannies and rock pools to explore. These are home to any number of marine species from starfish to octopus.” – read more here
