This boho beach wedding in Algarve was beautiful, set on Evaristo beach, an intimate cove on Portugal’s south coast. Mylene wore a perfect summer bohemian dress by Grace Loves Lace. Their sand ceremony was held in the late afternoon and the evening was spent dancing the night away!
Alec and Mylene love the beach, the sunshine, the ocean the salty breeze of the Algarve. We met up with them a couple of days before their wedding this summer and photographed their engagement session on Gale beach. When the sun dipped below the horizon the harvest moon rose from the sandstone cliffs, it was magic. Mylene, a moon child, a bohemian and a romantic at heart, picked this date in particular…the brightest moon shone on their wedding night.
This is the full moon that happens to be closest to the autumn equinox and is the longest night of the year. The Harvest Moon has other names too. It’s known often as the Wine Moon as it is through this is when grapes are plump and ready for collecting. It’s called the Singing Moon as the festivals held to mark it would involve signing. The native American tribes may call it the Full Corn Moon and some European people may refer to it as the Gypsy Moon.
The Celts would use the Harvest Moon to mark the time before Samhain -“Summer’s End” and considered it a blessing. It would be a time of crop collection but also of large parties; signing, dancing and drinking.
Wedding perfection!
