. . . . .
Even before we moved to Portugal, Lisbon was always one of our most favourite cities in Europe. So vibrant and cool, full of culture, charm and great food. There is so much to experience in this city but our favourite area is the Bairro Alto neighbourhood. This place really comes alive at night, with its tiny bars and restaurants people spill out into the warm and friendly streets. Bairro Alto is full of contrasts, you just need to look up and on the second floor you’ll see an old lady hanging out her laundry.
Sophie and Jonathan live in Montreal Canada but Jonathan has roots in Portugal and some of his family lives right in Lisbon, which is why they decided to have their destination wedding in this great city. They hired out this awesome little hotel called The House B&B, it occupies the top 2 floors of an old building and opens up to a stunning roof top terrace overlooking the city scape and the Lisbon Bridge, Ponte 25 de Abril. It was truly an amazing space for a party. Their wedding was a small and intimate one, about 20 family and friends celebrated with them. The B&B also overlooked the Basilica Estrella where Sophie and Jonathan exchanged their vows. The Basilica was a sight to see, it was huge, made even bigger by the fact that the whole wedding party occupied only the front 2 rows.
We had an a amazing time photographing this wedding and, naturally, took to the streets of Bairro Alto for Sophie and Jonathan’s portraits. We jumped in a cab and in 5 minutes we were on Rua da Bica de Duarte Bello, the street car was waiting for is there… (just by chance)
